Nightfall Table Lamp

The Nightfall Table Lamp is a striking work of functional art that merges contemporary design with expressive materiality. Sculpted from a solid block of Douglas Fir, the lamp’s sculptural base is meticulously hand-carved, showcasing a rich, tactile surface defined by deep, rhythmic carvings. 

It is finished with a hand-rubbed black oil stain, followed by a satin hard wax oil, both derived from natural plant oils. This creates a rich, velvety sheen that highlights the wood’s hand-cut facets, revealing textures that play with shadow and light.

Anchoring the piece is a recycled slab of black granite, thoughtfully repurposed and kept out of the landfill. The stone’s semi-textured finish offers a soft, tactile sheen that complements the carved wood while adding stability and a sense of permanence. The combination of reclaimed timber and repurposed stone gives the lamp an architectural, almost monolithic presence.

Crowning the sculptural base is a custom-made lampshade wrapped in textured, raw 100% silk. Chosen for its organic irregularity and delicate visual presence. The silk’s natural fibres create a soft, diffused glow, offering a refined contrast to the weight and complexity of the carved wood beneath. 

Every detail is carefully considered. The lamp’s hardware is crafted from brass-plated nickel, adding a clean, contemporary metallic accent. Thoughtful attention extends even to the lamp’s wiring, featuring a houndstooth-braided cord that elevates a utilitarian element into a tailored design detail. A high-tech Italian one-button inline dimmer provides effortless, smooth, intuitive control of the lighting atmosphere.
